Towson University is accepting applications for a Landscape Technician in Facilities to perform landscaping activities such as planning and layout of projects, planting, pruning and cultivation shrubs, trees, turf and flowers and pesticide applications; inventory campus trees. This position will inspect and monitor the conditions of the landscape to assess horticultural or environmental problems; work with the supervisor to recommend and obtain quotes (with specifications if needed) for all grounds keeping supplies and equipment and submit quotes to Landscape Manager for final decision. Advises and instructs grounds personnel in erosion control, mowing practices, fertilization, pruning, irrigation and applications of pesticides to fields and landscape. Performs insect and disease identification, soil evaluation and other evaluative techniques. Determines and takes appropriate remedial action. Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are available for assigned projects. Ensures the operational safety and readiness of equipment; cleans equipment and performs routine maintenance and repairs. Operates landscaping equipment such as sprayers, forklifts, backhoes, power and hand tools; cleans project area upon completion of work.
Description The Landscape Technician performs landscaping activities such as, planting and cultivating shrubs, trees, turf and flowers and pesticide applications; operates/utilizes a variety of equipment or tools associated with activities involving truck, kubota or backhoe. Develops tree inventory, utilizes diagnostic instruments, cameras and global positioning systems. Inspects and monitors the condition of the landscape to assess horticultural or environmental problems. Assists in the preparation of reports, documents inspections, photographs property conditions and maintains required records; planning and layout of projects. Operates computer to enter email, retrieve work orders, time sheets reports, etc. and uses other computer programs. Prepares specifications for bids/quotes for various landscaping contracts as needed. Performs snow removal and may perform additional duties including assist other shops as requested or required particularly in emergency situations.
This position is an Essential Personnel position for emergencies such as snow removal, special events, storm damage, power outages and other emergencies that occur within Facilities Management. Schedule must be flexible in order to meet departmental needs.
