The School of Architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, an internationally recognized professional school offering B. Arch, M.Arch and M.S. degrees, invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the department of Undergraduate Architecture. With 150 full and part-time faculty members, the Undergraduate Program serves a diverse domestic and international student body of approximately 650 and awards an accredited five-year Bachelor of Architecture degree. Pratt Institute's Undergraduate Architecture Program is a Professional Degree Program which prioritizes inventive design and critical thinking together with professional knowledge and skills. The selected candidate will be expected to assume a leading role in architectural design, material practice, and environmental systems at a variety of scales - from the built environment to urban conditions. Additionally, the candidate should have a capacity for engaged, experimental and forward looking thinking, specifically as it applies to design, construction and fabrication relative to the contemporary practice of architecture. Responsibilities include:
- Teaching in the advanced core area of the curriculum;
- Developing and coordinating courses with a focus on comprehensive architectural design, material practice, sustainable architecture and urbanism;
- Serving on departmental, school, and institute committees;
- Participating in program accreditation;
- Advising students;
- Providing outreach efforts and participating in initiatives, including working closely with the Undergraduate Chair to promote interdisciplinary and sponsored collaborations related to new and innovative opportunities with academic and corporate partners; and
- All other related activities as required.
We require at minimum a Master's degree and a professional degree in architecture or engineering. Applicants must demonstrate expertise in emerging architectural design and experimentation as well as one or more of the following: landscape design, urban design, material practice, environmental systems and fabrication. At least five years' teaching experience at the college level and at least five years' professional experience are also required. Favorable consideration will be given to candidates with a strong commitment to innovative design and recognized standing in the design field as evidenced by a distinguished record of publication, exhibition, teaching and creative achievement in architectural practice, experimentation and research. Professional licensure is preferred.
SALARY and academic rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience.
