The San Juan Water District is seeking a new Conservation Technician. The District may hire at either level, depending on qualifications.
The Conservation Technician is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties involving the promotion and implementation of the District’s comprehensive water efficiency program and projects. The successful candidate will conduct residential and non-residential water audits; maintain and update data related to water use; develop irrigation water budgets; evaluate customer water use patterns; track and respond to reports of water waste and inefficiency; assist customers with water use issues and provide recommendations to improve efficiency; participate in regional water conservation activities; manage and participate in the District’s rebate programs; manage the District’s school education program; and enforce the District’s water conservation stages during drought.
To be considered, candidates must have knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment, including Microsoft Office programs, principles and practices of customer services, an ability to write routine reports and correspondence, perform basic mathematical calculations and keep accurate records as well as work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Conservation Technician I: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented with public speaking, communication, technical writing, horticulture, irrigation, landscape design or related courses.
Conservation Technician II: In addition to the qualifications of the Conservation Technician I, one to three years of progressively responsible experience in landscape irrigation or plumbing, plus two years of other education or training in residential plumbing practices, irrigation systems, or water conservation practices equivalent to the Water Conservation Technician I level is highly desirable.
Candidates will also possess an Irrigation Auditor Certification for the Conservation Technician II level.
The hourly salary range is $26.82 – $32.18 for the Conservation Technician I and $29.56 - $35.48 for the Conservation Technician II, plus competitive benefits.
