Position will be responsible for the cultivation, maintenance and promotion of plants, turf or a plant collection in an assigned program or geographical area; observation and diagnosis of structural and horticultural problems.
Work includes installation of all new plant material following plans and/or approved horticultural/grounds practices and procedures; maintaining the beds including pruning, weeding, mulching, fertilizing and spraying of plant material, which may include pesticides.
Horticultural and landscape management duties include assisting in cultural activities, spraying pesticides, equipment operation responsibilities, lawn and landscape renovations, landscape installations, and repair of irrigation systems.
Position will participate in landscape design and construction, supply and arrangement of special foliage for events and acts as seasonal color coordinator. Work requires the use of special tools for cultivation, maintenance and transportation of plants.
This position serves as part of the snow and ice management team during the winter months.
Education and Experience:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. NOTE: Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
Applicant must possess landscape maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of related technical training and experience and have the ability to efficiently and safely operate road equipment; operate and maintain landscape equipment; effectively plant trees, plants, shrubs, etc.; closely monitor watering needs of plants during the warm season; effectively and safely apply herbicide, pesticides, and fungicides; and have the ability to effectively communicate.
Applicant must also have working experience in and knowledge of winter weather practices; and the ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions, including but not limited to a public health emergency, require the university to close.
Two (2) years of landscape maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of related technical training and experience.
