Oversee the Central Campus areas and other high visibility areas on Campus and provides specialized landscape maintenance for several areas such as the Student Union and the new Heck Lake. Provide many landscape designs and act as the coordinator for landscape installation or other projects associated with specialized locations on Campus. Coordinate a wide variety of facility maintenance operational, diagnostic, and repair services. Distribute and supervise written work/job orders making specific job statements of materials and labor, including preparing purchase requisitions for supplies and materials for scheduled work. Establish and conduct training programs in safety, horticulture, turf maintenance and equipment operations. Oversee written communications for subordinate personnel as required. Maintain dual responsibility of Grounds Supervisor I and Project Coordinator of some of the specialty areas on Campus.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Graduation from a technical college with a major in air conditioning, heating and refrigeration technology, industrial maintenance technology or mechanical engineering technology and a minimum of three years progressive experience in facility maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
1. Associate’s degree with a major in horticulture science, ornamental horticulture, landscape design, or closely related field or an equivalent level of knowledge and 2. Three years of horticultural or grounds experience with supervisory experience. 3. Three years of progressive experience involving a wide variety of landscape and horticultural experiences as might be gained in the development and maintenance of large parks or institutional grounds, or in managing or supervising commercial landscape enterprises or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. 4. Knowledge of and ability to use and maintain materials, related instruments and equipment necessary with position, including mowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, weed eaters and loaders. 5. Operate such equipment with dexterity and safety. 6. Good safety, attendance and past work records. 7. Ability to set mid to long-range maintenance goals and objectives and prioritize activities and tasks; prepare alternative plans to meet changing conditions and ensure timely task accomplishment. 8. Ability to coordinate a wide variety of facility maintenance operational, diagnostic and repair services. 9. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation and comprehension) required. 10. Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications required. 11. Computer literacy required. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and willingness to learn new programs preferred. 12. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and cultures required. 13. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork with co-workers, visitors, building occupants and the entire campus community required. 14. Physical agility to perform the tasks required. 15. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
