This position supervises a 3-4 person team of skilled mechanics (carpentry, electrical, HVAC and plumbing) on the evening shift (3pm-12pm) in the preventative maintenance, repair, and alteration of building systems and components. This position ensures the successful resolution of emergency and life safety issues during the assigned shift.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The Physical Plant is responsible for providing services relative to building and grounds maintenance, utilities, transportation, trash removal, central receiving, recycling, disposition of surplus property and moving and hauling. In addition, the Physical Plant has expanding responsibilities that include providing support services for the instruction and research programs to achieve the University's mission, goals and objectives. Maintains, improves and expands all campus buildings, campus image and education opportunities for all people. More specifically, the functions involve energy conservation, building renovation/repair, occupational safety and health, landscape design, event planning, vehicle and equipment maintenance/repair, motor pool and housekeeping services to 40 academic buildings, 15 residence halls and 19 farm buildings (15 research and 21 support facilities). Moreover, this unit is responsible for operation, repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of campus facilities during the 2nd shift (3pm-12mid).

High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Completion of high school and four years of progressive experience in construction or repair in a specific trade (i.e., carpentry, electrical, HVAC or plumbing) and a working knowledge of other trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to work from blue prints, sketches, locate and correct defects in equipment.
Skilled in use and care of equipment. Ability to diagnose trouble and repair appropriately.
At least five years of experience supervising a multi-trade crew (HVAC, carpentry, electrical, plumbing) and performing the maintenance, repair, alteration and preventative maintenance of multi-trade building systems and components.
